Don’t tell me I don’t keep warning you enough, these robots are set to take over you and me for good. One day it’s not technology, it’s you and me who are going to be obsolete, coz robots seem to be learning everything from mowing the lawn to construction work to playing with your baby to I wonder what not!

As if that was not enough for you to scream ‘Stop’, then Claus Soerensen and his colleagues have you in for a little surprise. Funny as it may seem, these indigenous guys have developed what might one day become the answer to ‘keeping things going’ for the agricultural world, called Hortibot, the 3 foot by 3 foot, self-directed, weed-eliminating robot.

The USP of the robot currently lies in the fact that it can currently identify 25 different types of weeds and is equipped with a computer and GPS to find the exact location of the weeds and the plants themselves. While you’re still gasping, Hortibot has a variety of weed-removing attachments and methods and can manually pick weeds, spray, or remove them using flames or a laser.

Okay, it maybe environment-friendly (like its owner keeps reiterating), it might bring down labor costs (which is something that truly worries me), and might also be lightweight(against those chunky machines), but how many such things will you put up on a farm that has differential land all across for different types of produce? Sure, priced at $71,000 (if it’s purchased outright right now), it might seem like a good bargain, but trust me someday you and me are going to cry for axing our own foot, and robbing ourselves of our loot (our talent).
