Mitsubishi Wakamaru botWe have reason to smile. While robotics might be all set to take over our jobs, things can go wrong when its technology fails, what say guys? One of the most recent and unfortunate examples of this would be Mitsubishi’s Wakamaru House Bot. Cute as a nut, this was expected to go great guns and the company had plans of selling at least about 100 of this $14k+ bots. But as destiny would’ve had it, far fewer of them got sold.

Well, the problem actually was with the limitations of the robot and the fact that even with all the functionalities that were intended, it could not be of much use beyond providing weather forecast and checking email. Moreover, let’s not forget that not too many people around the world are yet that tech-savvy. So while it might seem a wee bit affordable, this one’s already foreseen its doom. Mitsubishi is now renting it out to Read more

No, they are not two toys in sync, imitating Sylvester John and Arnold Schwarzenegger ice-skating while wooing some chicks with their muscles; they are in fact, the world’s smallest humanoid robots.

Only 165 mm in height and 350 gms in weight, the iSobot (that’s what it’s called) is packed with 17 micro-actuators and a gyro-sensor. Read more

picture_6-1Now of course, for you and me, a robot that can run or walk past water is something we would get momentarily excited about, laugh, talk a little about it, yawn and forget about it. But for many robot geeks out there, this of course is a very important milestone in what robots might be capable of achieving someday.

I know the robot you see up there looks too crabby to be good for anything, but if this mechanism, which uses Read more

Black Eagel GPS records crashes What you see up there, is not just some sleek looking GPS for the great-looking car you just bought, or well, wish to buy. It’s a GPS that’s actually capable of maintaining a record of accidents and car crashes. Well, no, it won’t help you avoid the crash. That’s something you got to do by keeping a tab on your forever booming testosterone levels or maybe be wise and don’t drink and drive.

When the Black Eagle GPS detects a deceleration of 1.1G or more, it assumes you’ve run into something , well mostly of the magnitude of a tree or a car, and saves an 18-second video of the collision. I’m still wondering, Read more

Transformers are real! Japanse robots transforms from car to robot mode

Now, considering that Japan is soon to become synonymous with innovation and creativity with all the cool stuff that the Japanese intelligentsia keep coming up with day after day, it’s nothing but obvious that if real transformers existed, they had to be in Japan. Well, the fact is that it’s true, well, at least partly. The robot you see above, from a Japanese robotic competition, can actually transform from car mode to robot mode…cool init? It’s great to have a slice of a great movie in real life, and this one’s sure going to be something you dig as it’s of a movie that was as cool as it could get. Of course its as tiny as a robot could possibly be, but what would actually set this apart from being a regular, commercial or rather popular item is the lack of funding and of course the fact that something 10 times the size of this could not be cool, I guess just plain scary.
