Announces San Jose Mercury reporter Dean Takahashi today in his weblog. Accoring to Takahasi, the folks at Emeryville-based robot company Ugobe that has been working ontheir robot dinosaur, a Camarasaurus named Pleo, are ready to make some big announcements today.First, Pleo will debut for $349 in October at retailers such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Target. NYC based Japanese Violinist/composer Mari Kimura is playing with an octo-limbed(?) robot designed by LEMUR (the League of Electronic Music Robots) for her (their) performance celebrating the 100th birthday of New York’s Japan Society.
According to Kimura, her duet partner involves four sets of guitar slides and picks, two motors in x-y formation which is like “… playing four different guitars at the same time”, says the 1995 Kenzo Nakajima Music Prize winner virtuosa. Read more

Well, Silicon Valley-based Data Robotics Inc., just released the so-called Drobo, an approach the company calls “the most modern storage unit available”. No doubt, this is an interesting (and somewhat beautiful) idea for innovative data handling. However, it does not come cheap: The Drobo retails for $500 - without the Harddrives. Anyway, PC World praises the new direct-attached storage device that seeks to simplify RAID and that certainly distinguishes from the sea of multidrive external enclosures currently available.
