“Hey you can just go Google it and you’ll find it”, might not remain such a famous daily-life statement anymore, especially with its competitor Ask.com, going overboard with making its sight extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate (I still like google far more than Ask). The venerable Wall Street Journal even concludes Ask.com has now the lead over the Goog in terms of how search results are displayed and navigated.
Apparently, while google doesn’t give you an entire series of options in terms of getting news, images and video on the same page while you run a search, Ask, with its new look is designed to give you all that and much more.
Instead of one jumbled list containing various confusing types of material, Ask divides the page into three parts, with the largest portion consisting of web links and a few ads (which I feel google handles in a much better way without interfering with the text displayed).
Sure, being new, different and a cut above the rest is the mantra of the day, but being simple and easy to understand is equally important in my opinion. Google beats all other search engines in terms of information, depth and variety, and in an information-dominated industry, that’s what’s of utmost importance. (NiRa)
