624776Remember Softbank’s “almost Transformer” mobile phone? Here now comes a phone that is really akin to the Transformers. It doesn’t turn into a robot but this one can transform into many different things: mobile phone, camera, multimedia player, projector, 3D scanning. and holographic imaging. Reading about robots that mimic humans is sometimes pretty scary. If the ReadyBot Dishwasher and Justin the Coffeemaker gave me the creeps, how much more will the iCub Baby Robot do to me? The robot’s head reminds me of Casper, the Friendly Ghost. But I am not sure if this one can be friendly once it learns how to think and talk. Researchers at the University of Plymouth are currently working on this project that is said to help them discover how language is taught. Read more

readybot-main_48With all the robotic gadgets coming out, I am honestly excited and scared at the same time. There’s the robo-phone, Justine the Robot Coffeemaker, and now a robot that does dirty dishes. I’m excited and proud because I live in such a modern world and I am lucky to be able to witness all these innovations. And scared because, it’s not really far before we deal with robots…better yet, real androids. You know, something like Robin William’s Bicentennial Man who could overtake us just like in the movies. justine-1_48Who doesn’t like coffee? I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t like the taste and aroma of coffee. My sister for one is addicted to it. She could gulp down 5 cups of Starbucks coffee a day, that is, when she has lots of money. She has a coffeemaker at home but she’s always lazy and asks her husband to prepare her a cup. So perhaps a robot that can brew and serve coffee will be perfect for her. Read more
